There are no guarantees that containment diplomacy will win out in Palestine given continued Israeli provocation

 After four grim years of mutual recriminations, the nationalist Fatah and Islamic Hamas have reached an auspicious agreement to end their differences. Israel is the loser if the Palestinians stay strong.

The rift that has defined Palestinian politics for four years exhausted the Palestinian people, seriously weakened the traditionally strong fabric of Palestinian society, and nearly caused an irreversible implosion within the Palestinian community at home and in the Diaspora.

Above all, it made the prospects of peace in the region more remote than ever, if only because a divided nation divides its power, especially when facing an increasingly fascist Israel, searching for pretexts and red herrings in order to evade and circumvent peace.

Both Israel and its allies, including Israel's lap dog, the US Congress, opportunistically manipulated the Palestinian rift to to their political benefit. It was common to hear among US senators and congressmen, "Let the Palestinians first have peace amongst themselves; peace with Israel will only come when the Palestinians learn to live in peace with themselves."

Now, after painstakingly achieving the long-awaited reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas, Israel is fretting, like a woman who has just received  a bad divorce deal in court, threatening the Palestinians with doom and reprisals, as if the Palestinians were supposed to perpetuate their internal differences for the convenience of Zionist thugs.

Congress didn’t lag behind. Indeed, no sooner had Hamas and Fatah representatives announced their rapprochement in Cairo on Thursday, 28 April, than several Congressional figures warned that the US would stop financial aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Well, if American aid to the Palestinians is meant to help them help themselves, then this aid is welcomed and appreciated. However, if this aid is meant as a bribe money to encourage or entice Palestinians to sell their inalienable national rights, then we are sorry; we can't accept your money.

More to the point, if Congress insists that aid to the PA or to a prospective Palestinian national unity entity hedges on the resumption of inter-Palestinian strife, which I am sure would instill in Israel and her allies a lot of mirth, then we have no alternative but to look our American interlocutors in the eye and say, "Sorry friends! Take your money and shove it!"

There is no doubt that Israel has been taken by surprise by the reconciliation pact in Cairo, an auspicious feat that complements the great historical changes now taking place in the Arab region. Avigdor Lieberman, who combines Stalin's ruthlessness and Hitler's nefariousness, was quoted as saying that Israel was preparing "an arsenal of reprisals against the Palestinians".

The more public relations savvy Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyah reiterated old stands that Israel wouldn't resume peace talks with a Hamas-Fatah government due to the participation of Hamas, as if the good tidings of peace were hovering over the Middle East prior to the reconciliation agreement.

Netanyahu, a real thug, once again invoked the terror issue, ignoring the cardinal fact that Israel is the ultimate expression and embodiment of terror in our time. Netanyahu invoked the fact that Hamas didn't recognize Israel. Well, does Israel recognize Palestine? Does amorphous Israel have fixed borders?

Hamas will never ever recognize such a state, which was born in terror and genocide. Likewise, Congress along with happy-go-lucky Hillary Clinton is re-invoking the so-called Quartet conditions for talking to Hamas. This anachronistic "Nay-set" includes: abandoning armed resistance, recognizing Israel, and accepting previous agreements between the PA and Israel.

These impossible and blackmailing conditions are illogical and preposterous.

First, Hamas has been serious and sincere about observing the tahdia, or calm, in the Gaza Strip, often in the face of Israel's murderous provocations. However, rather than meeting appreciation and praise from Washington, as well as hard opposition from some other Palestinian factions, Hamas only received malice and vilification from the US.

As to negotiations with Israel, it is well known that Hamas, which is not part of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), never took part in these futile negotiations. Hence, the resumption of whatever negotiations wouldn’t hedge on Hamas's approval.

Finally, asking Hamas to accept previous agreements between Israel and the PLO is ridiculous, since nearly all these agreements, including the infamous Oslo Accords, are essentially vague, so much so, that even Israel and the PLO themselves don't agree on a common understanding of these agreements.

Finally, some advice to the PLO and its leadership. Don't be obsequious or complacent vis-à-vis Israel or any of its obedient dogs. These entities have not one iota of morality or honesty, let alone justice, in their general outlook. They are willing to blackmail us to the last drop of our blood. They would embark on the unthinkable to keep us in a state of enslavement to Zionism.

Hence, you should be able to seriously threaten the Zionist regime, to dismantle the whole autonomous regime once and for all. Of course, any vestige of "security coordination" — which is shameful to the Palestinian conscience — must be terminated.

Don't display weakness or cowardice or indecisiveness. Our destiny as a people is not to be perennially enslaved by those racist thugs from Eastern Europe who want to build their glory at our expense.

Israeli Army Injures Dozens of Palestinians in Beit Dajan

Israeli occupation soldiers attacked, on Friday, the weekly nonviolent protest in Beit Dajan village, east of Nablus in the northern West Bank, injuring at least 40.

During the peaceful procession, villagers marched on their lands carrying Palestinian flags and chanting anti-settlement slogans, confronting the heavily armed soldiers.

The army opened fire at protesters with live ammunition, tear gas canisters, and concussion grenades, causing at least 40 people to suffer the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation.

Palestinians in the village have been holding weekly demonstrations to reject the continued Israeli colonization of Palestinian lands in the occupied West Bank.

Faiz defends Muhyiddin over MP’s “bodoh” remark.

A BERSATU Supreme Council member has lambasted Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee for implying that former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin lacked wisdom when commenting on the government’s South China Sea policy.

In a statement, Dr Muhammad Faiz Na’aman took offense that Lee had implied the Perikatan Nasional chairman was either “bodoh” (unintelligent) or pretending to be “bodoh” on international relations by criticising Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s stance on the topic.

“Perhaps from the perspective of young and ultra-liberal DAP MPs like Howard Lee, sensitive issues such as the South China Sea need not be emphasized on grounds that we are dealing with China – an economic power – and we need to take care of their feelings,” Dr Faiz said.

“Are the diplomatic efforts, trade relations and history of this region with China since the time of the Malacca sultanate insufficient? Do we need to be soft if our rights are being violated or threatened?”

Seorang ahli Majlis Tertinggi BERSATU membidas Ahli Parlimen Ipoh Timor Howard Lee kerana menyiratkan bahawa bekas perdana menteri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tidak mempunyai kebijaksanaan apabila mengulas mengenai dasar Laut China Selatan kerajaan.

Dalam satu kenyataan, Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman tersinggung kerana Lee menyiratkan pengerusi Perikatan Nasional itu sama ada "bodoh" (tidak cerdik) atau berpura-pura "bodoh" dalam hubungan antarabangsa dengan mengkritik pendirian Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim mengenai topik itu. .. .

"Mungkin dari perspektif ahli Parlimen DAP yang muda dan ultra-liberal seperti Howard Lee, isu sensitif seperti Laut China Selatan tidak perlu dititikberatkan atas alasan kita berurusan dengan China - perasaan kuasa ekonomi," kata Dr Faiz.

“Adakah usaha diplomatik, hubungan perdagangan dan sejarah wilayah ini dengan China sejak zaman kesultanan Melaka tidak mencukupi? Adakah kita perlu berlembut jika hak kita dicabul atau diancam?”

Pada 7 April, presiden Bersatu telah menegur Anwar kerana membuat kenyataan yang dikatakan "cuai" mengenai Laut China Selatan, yang menjadi pusat pertikaian wilayah antara beberapa negara.

Ini berlaku selepas Perdana Menteri berkata Beijing telah menyatakan kebimbangan terhadap aktiviti Petronas di kawasan Laut China Selatan yang dituntut oleh China.

Anwar berkata Putrajaya terbuka untuk berunding dengan Beijing "jika China merasakan ini adalah hak mereka".

Dalam satu kenyataan, Muhyiddin mendakwa Anwar secara tidak langsung mengakui tuntutan China ke atas kawasan yang secara rasminya milik Malaysia, sambil menambah bahawa wilayah Malaysia mesti dipertahankan.

Dalam pembelaannya terhadap Anwar, Lee berkata Muhyiddin mungkin kurang kebijaksanaan sebagai bekas perdana menteri jika beliau tidak faham bahawa perdana menteri sekarang merujuk kepada mesyuarat dan timbang tara untuk membetulkan atau meningkatkan ketegangan berhubung isu diplomatik yang menjadi perbalahan seperti Laut China Selatan.

Bagi menyokong Muhyiddin, Dr Faiz menegaskan bahawa tiada pemimpin ASEAN lain menggunakan perkataan "berunding" sebagai tindak balas terhadap tuntutan China terhadap Laut China Selatan walaupun hubungan diplomatik dan perdagangan China yang kukuh dengan rantau itu.

“Oleh itu, tidak hairanlah Anwar dilabel ‘lemah’ oleh Muhyiddin dalam perkara ini. Saya juga ingin bertanya sama ada Anwar cuba berlembut dengan China sedangkan seluruh negara tahu kuasa luar mana yang menyokongnya semasa era Reformasi,” tegas Dr Faiz.

“Saya harap (Anwar) tidak hipokrit ketika berdepan dengan negara lain kerana rakyat Malaysia sudah muak dengan banyak pusingan-Unya sambil melanggar prinsip dan janjinya sendiri.”

Dr Faiz seterusnya menegaskan bahawa adalah tidak perlu bagi Lee untuk menggunakan bahasa yang menghina pembangkang kerana menjadi tanggungjawab pembangkang untuk menyampaikan kritikan terutamanya dalam negara demokrasi. – 10 April,

BAITUL MAQDIS - Far-right Jewish settlers early Sunday stormed the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem. Israeli police guarded the Jewish settlers during the raid, reported Anadolu Agency.

The police began to be deployed around the Qibla Masjid and did not allow the Palestinians inside to go outside.

They later started to take the Jewish settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque under intense security measures.

Earlier, the Israeli police did not allow young Palestinians to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex for morning prayers.
