Key efforts and initiatives by the Malaysian Government post-civil war Bosnia Herzagovina Re- Development

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia played a significant and proactive role in assisting Bosnia and Herzegovina both during and immediately after the Bosnian War (1992–1995), concerned with western nation providing no support for postwar recovery for the city of  Sarajevo and the Bosniak Muslim community. Mahathir's efforts were driven by a sense of duty to help fellow Muslims, outrage at the inaction of Western powers, and a desire to uphold human rights, leading to substantial political, financial, and rebuilding support.

Key efforts and initiatives by Malaysia post-civil war included:

Long-Term Military Support and Security: After the 1995 Dayton Agreement, Malaysia continued its support by transitioning its peacekeepers (MALBATT) into the NATO-led IFOR (Implementation Force) and SFOR (Stabilization Force) to help maintain peace. Malaysia helped train the Bosnian armed forces to ensure they could secure their own country's peace and stability.

Financial and Economic Reconstruction: Malaysia contributed to rebuilding infrastructure, including building schools and mosques. In 2001, Malaysia supported a $20-million joint investment project in Sarajevo (Bosmal D.O.O.) for a multi-storey commercial and residential complex.

Humanitarian and Educational Support: Malaysia supported the reconstruction of Bosnia through the donation of funds, and through the 1990s and early 2000s, provided opportunities for education. Bosnian students and professionals who had taken refuge in Malaysia during the war returned home with English proficiency and computer skills, helping them secure jobs in international organizations aiding reconstruction.

Diplomatic and Political Advocacy: Mahathir continued to act as a strong advocate for Bosnia on the international stage, pushing for the rights of Bosniaks and lobbying for foreign investment in the newly independent country.

Honoring the Efforts: Due to the immense support from Malaysia and Mahathir, a monument of gratitude to Mahathir Mohamad was unveiled in Sarajevo in 2020.

Background on wartime support (pre-1995):

Before the war ended, Mahathir sent Malaysian soldiers to join UN Peacekeeping Operations. Malaysia also opened its doors to Bosnian refugees, accepting them without visas during the conflict.

Note: The primary sources of information regarding Malaysia's support during this period indicate that the effort to aid Bosnia was strongly pushed by Mahathir as part of an active foreign policy, often criticizing the UN and Western powers for their inaction.

Malaysia and Bosnia and Herzegovina maintain strong bilateral relations, characterized by economic cooperation, investment projects, and historical support from Malaysia in the reconstruction of Bosnia. Key areas of collaboration include trade, investment, defence, and the halal sector.

Key Projects and Economic Cooperation

Investments: Malaysian investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina exceeded RM160 million as of early 2024, focused on sectors like property development, hotels, and restaurants.

Malaysian-Bosnian Joint Project (Bosmal): Bank Islam (Labuan) Ltd has previously provided significant loans for construction projects, including the Bosmal City Centre in Sarajevo.

Halal and Agriculture: Both countries cooperate closely in the agricultural and halal sectors, with three Malaysian Islamic banks operating in Bosnia since 2010.

Infrastructure: Malaysia has shown readiness to participate in infrastructure, energy, and business networking projects, as highlighted in 2019.

Business Council: The Malaysia-Bosnia and Herzegovina Business Council (MBBC) was launched in 2014 to enhance economic ties and strengthen business links.

Diplomatic and Historical Cooperation

Defence and Training: Since 2003, Bosnia has participated in the Malaysian Defence Cooperation Programme, with 82 personnel trained by 2009 in areas like UN peacekeeping, logistics, and law.

International Support: Malaysia was a strong supporter of Bosnia-Herzegovina during the conflict in the 1990s, actively opposing the UN and Western policies.

Tourism: The Embassy of Malaysia in Sarajevo has actively worked to boost tourism links, preparing for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Visa Policy: Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina do not require a visa to enter Malaysia for tourism purposes for up to 3 months.

Recent Developments

2024 Forum: The Malaysia-Bosnia and Herzegovina International Business Forum 2024 was organized to strengthen economic partnerships.

Trade Growth: Bilateral trade between the two nations increased by 32.2% in 2023.

Diplomatic Support: Malaysia has historically provided strong diplomatic support, with Bosnian citizens often viewing Malaysia as a key friend.

Latar belakang sokongan masa perang (sebelum 1995):

Jambatan Persabatan - Sumbangan Malaysia:

The Bridge of Sarajevo

M’sians travelling to India urged to be wary of Nipah virus

India’s health ministry had confirmed two cases of Nipah virus in the eastern state of West Bengal. (EPA Images pic)

Cases of Nipah virus infection were first reported in 1998 and have since been reported in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore. The case fatality rate is estimated at 40% to 75%. Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are the natural host of the Nipah virus

The High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi has urged Malaysians travelling to India to take precautions against Nipah virus infection.

The commission advised those visiting areas with reported Nipah virus cases to wear masks in public places and to avoid crowded areas where possible.

Travellers and residents are also urged to maintain strict personal hygiene, including frequent hand-washing, and to avoid consuming unwashed fruits or food that may be contaminated.

“The High Commission will continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates as necessary,” it said in an advisory.

“Malaysian nationals are encouraged to stay informed and follow all recommended precautions in the interest of their health and safety.”

It also cautioned against contact with sick animals or individuals exhibiting symptoms such as fever, headache, cough, or respiratory distress.

India’s health ministry has confirmed two cases of Nipah virus in the eastern state of West Bengal. On Tuesday, it reported that the outbreak had been contained.

The outbreak has prompted authorities in several Asian countries, including Malaysia, to implement screening measures for travellers arriving from India.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Nipah virus infection is a zoonotic illness transmitted from animals to humans and can also spread among people through contaminated food or direct human-to-human contact.

The virus typically incubates in the human body for four to 14 days. There is no treatment or vaccine currently available.

Nipah virus usually transmits from infected bats and other animals to humans and can also be transmitted directly between people. There is currently no treatment or vaccine available for Nipah virus, however several candidate products are under development. Early intensive supportive care can improve survival.

AL AQSA ADALAH TANGGUNGJAWAB UMAT ISLAM.

Jangan berdiam diri.

Fugitive Businessman Jho Low to Forfeit Over $100 Million in Luxury Homes

That includes apartments in London and New York and a mansion in Los Angeles

Fugitive businessman Jho Low, accused of orchestrating a multibillion-dollar fraud of a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, has agreed to forfeit over $100 million worth of luxury real estate as part of a wide-ranging settlement with U.S. prosecutors.

That includes two posh London apartments, two New York City condos—one on the city’s famed Billionaire’s Row—and a contemporary mansion in Los Angeles, all of which U.S. prosecutors accused Mr. Low of buying with stolen money from a multibillion-dollar heist, known as the 1MDB scandal, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Wednesday.

The collection of lavish properties are only a slice of some $700 million in assets, including a private jet, fine art and diamond jewelry, that Mr. Low has agreed to give up, according to court documents filed this week.

More: Former Superyacht of Fugitive Businessman Jho Low Hits the Market

Mr. Low, 37, has denied all charges against him. He said in a statement that the settlement did “not constitute an admission of guilt, liability or any form of wrongdoing by me.”

The three U.S. homes were already headed to the market as part of prior agreements between Mr. Low and federal prosecutors, Mansion Global has previously reported.

One of them, a lavish penthouse atop the Mandarin Oriental Residences by Central Park South, a stretch of Midtown Manhattan referred to as Billionaire’s Row for its superlatively expensive apartments, is already in contract, according to listing records on StreetEasy.

A forfeited four-bedroom Manhattan penthouse of fugitive financier Jho Low is already in contract with a buyer.

The four-bedroom penthouse went into contract earlier this month, asking $30 million—approximately $500,000 less than Mr. Low bought it for in 2011.

Agents for Mr. Low are expected to help the U.S. government manage and dispose of the assets, including his five homes, the Justice Department said.

But the intermediaries are likely to face an uphill task selling off the properties for figures close to what Mr. Low originally paid, as both New York City and London are in the midst of a downturn in their prime housing markets.

For example, Mr. Low’s other New York City property is located on the second floor of a historic pre-war building in Manhattan’s trendy SoHo neighborhood. The apartment, which features 14-foot ceilings, decorative interior columns and built-in bookshelves, is asking $9.2 million—several million less than the $13.8 million Mr. Low purchased it for back in 2014, according to a listing for the property and court documents.

It’s not just a change in market conditions that presents a hurdle for those charged with unloading the properties, as some have fallen into disrepair.

For instance, the sprawling Los Angeles mansion, set on 1.2 acres off the city’s Sunset Strip, “will need full restoration,” according to a listing for the property with Ernie Carswell and Christopher Pickett, both of Douglas Elliman. The brokerage has declined to comment on the property.

The Los Angeles house, which prosecutors said Mr. Low purchased with embezzled funds, is on the market for $24 million—less than two-thirds of the $39 million the businessman paid in 2012, according to property records and court documents.

Meanwhile, the sale of Mr. Low’s London properties face a similarly daunting market, as higher transfer taxes in the U.K. paired with a rancorous political environment ahead of Brexit have combined to depress home values in the city’s center since 2014.

It’s not clear how much Mr. Low paid for the two London apartments, which include a 12,000-square-foot penthouse and a nearby flat, both in the city’s posh Mayfair neighborhood. Federal prosecutors claim he wired at least £35 million to a U.K. bank account for the purchase of the penthouse atop Stratton House in 2010, according to court documents.

But the developer of the building, Grafton Advisors, claims the lavish aerie set a record nine years ago at over £4,000 per square foot, according to Grafton’s website. That would mean a final sale price at the time of over £48 million. At the moment, there are no publicly listed apartments priced that high in London.

Mr. Low, who is reportedly in self-imposed exile in China, is accused of orchestrating the theft of $4.5 billion from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad, known as 1MDB. U.S. prosecutors maintain that he laundered the ill-gotten gains through banks around the world and used the funds to run a lavish lifestyle.

“Thanks to this settlement, one of the men allegedly at the center of this massive scheme will lose all access to hundreds of millions of dollars,” said U.S. Attorney Nicola T. Hanna of the Central District of California in a statement on Wednesday. “This settlement agreement forces Low and his family to relinquish hundreds of millions of dollars in ill-gotten gains that were intended to be used for the benefit of the Malaysian people, and it sends a signal that the United States will not be a safe haven for the proceeds of corruption.

Penang Man Claims He Was Told To Change Into Long Pants Before Lodging Report Over Broken Car Window At Police Station

A 34-year-old man, identified only by his surname Shim, faced an unexpected dress code requirement at a police station in Penang.
After dining at a hawker center, Shim discovered his car’s window shattered and items including cash and his wife’s international passport stolen.

When he approached one of the police station at Seberang Perai to report the incident, he was turned away, being told to come back wearing long pants instead of shorts.

Speaking to WeirdKaya, he said his car mirror was shattered, affecting the rear seating area.

At the first police station, he wasn’t outright denied service; instead, he was advised to return in long pants to file his report.

At the second station, he did not delve into the reasons behind the different policies of the two stations but simply inquired if he could file his report despite his attire, to which he was allowed.

He shared his frustration on the Facebook group named “We Love Bukit Tambun 吾爱武吉淡汶,” questioning the logic behind such a demand during an emergency.

The situation took a turn when he was redirected to the Bukit Tambun police station, where the dress code was not an issue, and the police even inquired why he had taken so long to report the crime.

This incident raises questions about dress code policies in emergency situations at police stations.

Netizens reacted with a mixture of humor and disbelief to the incident.

Sarcastic remarks made rounds, with one user joking about the possibility of dress codes becoming a priority over citizens’ concerns, and another mockingly anticipating a future where formal attire might be required for police reports.

Expressi duka seorang anak Palestina

Klip video yang paling banyak diviralkan ialah tangisan seorang gadis Palestina ketika dia menggendong adiknya selepas semua ahli keluarganya mati syahid akibat pengeboman.
